Matelasse Queen Bedspreads

Matelesse queen bedspreads measure 102" by 116" and come in a variety of colors and designs including Queen Elizabeth, Cape Cod and Abigail Adams (also known as First Lady's Choice).

Matelasse queen bedspreads have been woven on looms in Lewiston, Maine, for the past 150 years at the former Bates Mill.  Now, these luxurious cotton bedspreads are offered in a variety of colors and designs by maine heritage weavers, a company that has former Bates employees weaving bedspreads on looms similar to those used by the former Bates Fabrics

These bedspreads are loomed with raised fabric and embossed surface (also named trapunto) designs and are being sold throughout the United States and the rest of the world.  Queen size bedspreads are the most popular in size, and Maine Heritage Weavers also manufactures standard and custom size bedspreads and coverlets.

USA Made Bedspreads

USA made bedspreads are rare.  However, bedspreads have been woven in Lewiston, Maine, since 1850.  First by the legendary Bates Fabrics, and now by maine heritage weavers.  The skilled craftsmen and women of Maine Heritage Weavers began their trade at Bates.

Maine Heritage Weavers uses Jacquard looms to weave popular designs including Heritage, Abigail Adams, Martha's Choice and Queen Elizabeth. High grade cotton helps to produce the soft luxurious bedspreads, coverlets, throws and blankets woven.  Custom sizes are available to accommodate thicker mattresses.  Bedspreads are machine washable and will not fade nor shrink.

Matelasse designs are available in white, antique, linen, sage, french blue, wedgewood blue, and quartz.  Candlewick designs are available in white or antique.  The Bates Mill Store, www.batesmillstore.com, a factory direct retailer for over 50 years, offers free swatch cards of the Maine Heritage Weavers product line.

Woven Candlewick Bedspreads

Maine Heritage Weavers imanufactures woven candlewick bedspreads with 100 percent high grade cotton.

Martha's Choice and American Tradition woven by Maine Heritage Weavers are examples of candlewicks, also known as terry loop. Candlewick bedspreads were named so because the length of the tuft (or terry loop) on the bedspread was as long as a candle's wick. 

Martha's Choice, one of www.mhweavers.com most popular designs is available in solid colors of white or antique, and two-tone colors of blue/white or sage/white.  It is also available in coverlet sizes. American Tradition is available in white or antique.

Maine Heritage Weavers is one of the last candlewick textile companies in the United States.

Queen Elizabeth Bedspreads

Queen Elizabeth Bedspreads are loomed to be heirloomed by Maine Heritage Weavers.

This true matelasse bedspread is an authentic reproduction of an original handwoven masterpiece dating back to the first Elizabethan Era.  It then became popular in Colonial America. 

The elegant center medallion and flowers are permanently puffed to give grace and clarity to this classic museum design.  Queen Elizabeth (also known as Elizabethan Court) is offered in standard twin, full, queen, king and sham sizes in several colors including quartz and sage.

Matelasse Heritage Coverlets

Matelasse Heritage coverlets are woven from the highest grade cotton on Jacquard Looms, in Lewiston, Maine.  The same city where Benjamin Bates began Bates Manufacturing in 1850.

They are produced at Maine Heritage Weavers, which began 5 years ago by former Bates Fabrics employees. Woven on similar looms as Bates, matelasse Heritage coverlets are available in many colors. Heritage (formerly known as Heirloom) is a repeat pattern of a circular and leaf design.

Coverlets feature pom-pom fringe and matching shams and throws are offered. They are machine washable and are woven with fade-resistant dyed yarn.

Maine Heritage Weavers, of Lewiston, Maine, USA, is a company steeped in the traditions of America's past, yet we are open to designs that reflect the spirit and motifs of other nations. Such is the case with Tuscany, shown below.tuscany_bedspread.jpg

We are proud to announce "Tuscany" as the newest addition to our matelasse collection. This elegant pattern was taken from the archives of America's "attic," the Smithsonian Institution, but its grape and vine pattern and floral motif evoke images of the Tuscany region of Italy. The puffed matelasse technique defines the design, giving it a dimensional look and feel that is elegant and rich. The bedspread and matching shams are 100% cotton.

Sizes include: twin 80"x110", full 96"x110", queen 102"x110" and king 116"x120".  Shams and throws are also woven in this design.  Colors include solid white and antique or two-tone colors of wedgewood blue (blue/white), french blue (blue/antique), linen (white/antique), sage (green/antique) or quartz (quartz/antique).

Luxury Cotton Coverlets

Maine Heritage Weavers has been weaving luxury cotton coverlets in their Lewiston, Maine facility for over 5 years.  Comprised mostly of former Bates employees, Maine Heritage Weavers have many years of experience.

The coverlets are woven with high grade cotton, in standard coverlet sizes.  [tag]Candlewick[/tag] (terry/chenille) and [tag]matelasse[/tag] coverlets are preshrunk and machine washable.  Martha's Choice is an example of a candlewick coverlet and Heritage is a matelasse design.

These luxury 100 percent cotton coverlets are woven on Jacquard Looms and are "loomed to be heirloomed".
