Weaving with Jacquard Looms

Weaving with Jacquard Looms produces the finest bedspreads and coverlsts.

The Jacquard Loom was invented by Joseph M. Jacquard in 1804.   The Jacquard loom automatically controlls the warp and weft threads on a loom by recording patterns of holes in a string of cards, similar to the way a player piano plays notes. Warp is the lengthwise threads as the cloth is woven, and weft is the crosswise threads as woven.

[tag]Maine Heritage Weavers[/tag] manufactures woven matelasse bedspreads, throws and coverlets on Jacquard looms.  These looms are similar to those used by [tag]Bates Fabrics[/tag], which was famous for the quality of their bedspreads.

Employees of Maine Heritage Weavers are former Bates employees who continue the tradition of weaving America's favorite bedspreads as taught to them by their parents and grandparents.  Their products are truly loomed to be heirloomed.

Cotton Bedspreads and Coverlets

Cotton bedspreads and coverlets are woven in cotton yarn, which has a fuzzy pile effect.  The yarn protrudes from all sides of the bedspread or coverlet and produces a much softer feel.

Coverlets and bedspreads can be woven in wool, cotton, silk or rayon.  Maine Heritage Weavers, Inc., weaves bedspreads and coverlets in high grade cotton. Martha's Choice is one of the most popular designs offered in both bedspreads and coverlets and is of candlewick/terry construction.

Heritage, Cape Cod, Abigail Adams and Tuscany are matelasse bedspreads.  [tag]Matelasse[/tag] is a [tag]quilted[/tag] or "trapunto" construction.

Maine Heritage Weavers, Inc., (www.mhweavers.com) has the capability to design and weave a variety of products using this high quality cotton yarn.  These coverlets and bedspreads last for years and will not shrink more than 3 percent.  They are truly loomed to be heirloomed.
